andalusianWith the 2016 Andalusian World Cup only three months away, plans for the country's largest Iberian horse show are ramping up quickly -- so quickly that the show's organizer, Andalusian World, has issued a multiitem announcement covering show news.

"With show preparations moving along at such a brisk pace, we decided it was time to make a comprehensive announcement of all the new developments to date," says Amber Lentz, Andalusian World cofounder. "This is only Andalusian World Cup's (AWC) third year, but the show has grown each year and inquiries are coming in every day," adds Lentz. "There's exciting new additions and news every week that we need to get out to people interested in attending, whether as competitors, vendors or spectators."

  • Entries for the show are now open. There are limited entries for both the Dressage and Working Equitation competitions, which are open to all breeds.
  • Competition begins Wednesday, September 21 with Dressage. AWC, ANCCE and Working Equitation competitions run Thursday through Saturday, September 22-24.
  • The Dressage competition will include USEF/USDF Training Level through Grand Prix, DSHB, and musical freestyle classes are new this year.
  • Prize money will be awarded for both Supreme Championship classes and Working Equitation divisions. The winner of the Western Pleasure Supreme Championship will take home a custom Dale Chavez show saddle.
  • Qualifying rules for the Supreme Championship classes have changed for 2016. Competitors can qualify by winning a championship at any regular season or national show within the past five years in the same division/class they plan to enter at AWC.
  • The following judges have been retained (ANCCE still to be determined). Dressage and DSHB: "S" Judge David Schmutz. Working Equitation & Lusitano division: Sr. Rui Fernando Pinheiro Rosado. Andalusian World Cup: Cliff Swanson, Anne Judd, and Grace Greenlee.
  • There will be a Lusitano Revision held on site during the show.
  • Saturday night is 'dress up night,' and will feature a hat contest, exhibition performances and Supreme Championship classes.

Scheduled for September 21-24, 2016 at the world class South Point Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, the Andalusian World Cup draws a sizeable audience from across the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

The show is open to all horses with papers from any recognized Iberian Horse registry, including Andalusian, P.R.E., Lusitano, Azteca and many other crosses. The Dressage and Working Equitation competitions are open to all breeds. "If you haven't already, it's definitely time to start planning for the show," says Kevin Kidder, Andalusian World co-founder. "Last year the AWC discounted rate hotel rooms sold out very early. And, there are a limited number of entries for the Dressage and Working Equitation competitions. We expect they will fill quickly."
